Experiment Leadership Institute

Intensive Leadership Training in Advance of College

The Experiment in International Living is excited to run, for the second time, two competitive and fully funded high school summer leadership programs — Leadership Institute South Africa and Leadership Institute India.

These programs focus on leadership development, global issues, and civic engagement. Students can expect to have focused discussions on the local and global ramifications of topics such as global health, human rights, and social change; gain critical understanding of these and other global issues; and have meaningful opportunities to see in real time what communities are doing on the ground to address these challenges.

Program Components

  • Leadership seminar in Washington, DC (four days). This portion of the program will include trainings, workshops, field trips, group exercises, and discussions with political and NGO leaders in Washington, DC.
  • Program in India or South Africa (four weeks). Students spend four weeks in the host country (India or South Africa) — see individual Leadership Institute program pages for details.
  • Reentry and synthesis sessions in Brattleboro, Vermont (three days). All Leadership Institute participants will reconvene on the School for International Training (SIT) campus in Vermont for synthesis sessions, briefings, a reentry workshop, and brainstorming sessions on a post-program project.
  • Post-program project to be implemented in a participant’s home community.
