Korea is a passionate and warm-hearted country. Located between west China and southeast Japan, Korea has all of Asia’s cultures mixed with its own 5,000 years of creative and unique culture. It is now an international hub of Asia yet it remains divided since 1946. An independent homestay in Korea will get you involved in exploring Korea’s past, present and future for up to four weeks. This unique opportunity will be a valuable experience, a chance to learn about a new culture and a path to becoming an informed global citizen.
Participants are placed in homes which provide a supportive family environment and allow the participant to integrate more easily into the Korean way of life. Placements are made mostly in Seoul. Participants should be aware that every home is different, and that the homestay family might not provide all the comforts of home to which you are accustomed. Homestay families will help you when you first arrive by establishing an open line of communication and by having an open mind to cultural differences and practices, which may at first seem strange to both the host and the participant.
Local Support - An arrival packet will be provided upon your arrival with essential information about Korea, and you will be provided with all the support services you need throughout your stay.
Travel Arrangements - All travel arrangements must be booked in compliance with the placement and with the YES International office in Seoul. Booking travel is your responsibility, but we are more than happy to help you with information about local travel to your host community.
Dates and Application Deadlines - The homestay program in Korea is a 1-4 week program, and you may set your own start and end dates throughout the year. However, if a you want to stay longer than 4 weeks, arrangements can often be made. Additional fees will apply.
Optional Add-Ons - A few expamples of add-ons to your homestay are a volunteer environmental program and Korean language lessons. These additional program components cannot be guaranteed and are not included in the basic program fees.
Requirements - Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Basic English or Korean is required in order to communicate with your host family. Contact Federation EIL's International office for more information at 1-802-246-1154 or federation@experiment.org
